Another fest, another huge batch of games worth talking about. And these are only demos. Some of them are either already out or coming out in November. These are just some of the other demos I played this week.
The first part!
Fear The Timeloop
Developer/publisher: TacoEaters
Socials: Twitter | Youtube | Discord
Platform: Steam
Release date: Q1 2025
Item management, understanding your surroundings, and occasionally, time, are very important in survival horror games. In Fear The Timeloop, time is really of the essence, as you lose health every second. So, solve those puzzles and kill those monsters quickly, while not getting lost in the abandoned hospital, or you’ll meet your end at the hands of time.
However, during my time with the demo, I did rush many things because I always had the timer in mind, but it felt very forgiving to me. The narrative seems fun and interesting to me. You play as Sherrif James, and you can only communicate with your police dispatcher Rose, and while time resets for you, it doesn’t reset for the whole world.
Hyperbeat
Developer/publisher: Alice Bottino, Chancellor Wallin
Platform: Steam
Release date: Q1 2025
Growing up, I played a lot of Elite Beat Agents. I’ve surprisingly yet to dive into OSU! but rhythm games have always had a place in my heart. In comes HYPERBEAT a unique rhythm game that has you quickly bashing your body against the notes, and also slashing some.
The demo’s soundtrack was hype, and it was a very simple game to pick up and play, while also still feeling satisfying. Just like any rhythm game, the harder sounds are much, much harder. You can customize your knight, and they have promised workshop support, so this game is going to be a must-have for rhythm game lovers.
Insight
Developer: GravelRoad
Publisher: PaperPixel Games
Release date: Out Now! The price is only $2.99!
Insight is a first-person narrative horror game that intrigued me the first few seconds I played the demo, then confused me and intrigued me even more by the time I was done with the demo. Without saying much, as the initial surprise is what got me very interested in this game, a murder occurred, and you get to investigate it through three different perspectives. The game is only three dollars and forty minutes long, so why not give it a try? I know I will, as the initial hook got me, and I like that it not only has multiple perspectives, but multiple endings.
Is This Game Trying To Kill Me?
Developer/publisher: Stately Snail
Platform: Steam
Release date: Nov 13,2024
As I play Tormenture, I’ve become a fan of games that have you playing a game that’s affected by events outside the game. Is This Game Trying To Kill Me seems to be a humorous game where you play a top-down 2D game and can leave at any time, which switches you to a 3D First-Person perspective. You’ll have to switch between both perspectives to solve puzzles to get out!
The puzzles were simple, but the game was charming all the way through. The fact that both worlds collide, making each mistake fatal is such a fun dynamic to have in the puzzles. I’m a big fan of the art style, and I can’t wait to see what puzzle blends both worlds.
KARMA: The Dark World
Developer: POLLARD STUDIO LLC
Publisher: Wired Productions, Gamera Games
Socials: Wired Production’s Youtube | Pollard Studio’s Twitter | Game’s Discord
Platform: Steam
Release date: TBA
I’m a sucker for horror games that take place in someone’s mind, and this demo showed me that the full release will be exactly what I need. KARMA: The Dark World is a first-person psychological thriller set in a world where a corporation has become an omnipresent presence. Side note loved that adjusting the game’s setting was tied into the game.
As Daniel, you investigate people’s thoughts using the omni-present’s company technology. It’s through this setting that you encounter horrifying monsters, social commentary regarding exploitation, and very interesting and cool events that could never happen in reality.
Bonus: Tenebris Somnia
Developer: Andrés Borghi, Saibot Studios
Publisher: New Blood Interactive
Socials: New Blood’s Discord | Tenebris Somnia’s Twitter
Platform: Steam
Release date: TBA
I did say that it would only be five, didn’t I? Well, I’ve been following this game for some time now, so I had to mention it. Tenebris Somnia is a 2D survival horror adventure game with an NES art style that switches to live-action cutscenes for certain situations.
While the gameplay is as simple as an NES game would be, it was enjoyable because of its simplicity, and the live-action cutscenes are amazing, though it can be funny to go from a scary and grotesque monster to its pixelated version attacking you. I’m excited about the full release, and I can’t wait to see more transitions.
This is gonna be it for this fest! Be sure to let me know what you think in the comments below, and also let me know what games you’re excited for.
P.s. Shout out to Temtem: Swarm, it looks super hype. Guaranteed banger for bullet heaven fans.
I like the idea of Is this game trying to kill me. Thanks for sharing your thoughts on the demos!
Five games I didn't even notice during Next Fest! Thanks for checking them out.
And I'm so glad Tenebris Somnia is getting some love.
