FA 2024: The Premier Caribbean FGC Tournament
First Attack 2024 was the premier FGC tournament in Puerto Rico and the Caribbean, held from October 12th to 13th, and had 816 competitors. While most competitors were Puerto Ricans, there were travelers from around the world, including big names such as MenaRD, JoeCrush, Bbaez, Uriel Velorio, Zippy, BlueSkyGuyBSG, Kojicoco, Aarondamac, Jonathan Tene, Lord Knight, Capitancito, and many more.
What else?
They also held TCG tournaments, cosplay contests, as well as casuals, artists alley, vendors, and many of the great things you’d come to expect from a video game tournament, but with the burning hype and passion of the islanders.
Why Puerto Rico?
Puerto Rico may be a small island, but it always leaves big memories on those who visit. From the amazing beaches that have warm brown sand and clear blue water to the undefeated and unmatched food, especially when it comes to Chinese food.
The people are friendly, and as seen on many of the participant's Twitter, they were able to see a small piece of what Puerto Rico has to offer outside of the tournament.
But a big benefit of Puerto Rico, besides its location, great warm weather, amazing food, and the best beaches, is that there is no need for a Visa, if you’re a U.S. citizen. Most people speak Spanish and English, allowing Spanish-speaking players and English-speaking players to walk freely and enjoy the island.
What Does The Future Hold?
While it hasn’t been confirmed what games will be in the next First Attack, it has been confirmed that it will continue and come back in October 2025. And it will only get better, as those behind the event want to create a great experience for all who are attending and create a positive environment not only to enjoy in the event but outside the event as well.
Side Note:
A friend of mine participated in the Tekken 8 tournament and surprisingly didn’t drown in pools. So, be ready for me. I’m gonna start training my King whenever I can. My only goal is to make it out of pools, and I’ll be happy.
