I understand that a list like this should’ve been out a couple of weeks ago, but better late than never. If anything, this means I had more time to think about the games, and I also had time to read other people’s lists. And, I gotta say, with how many games came out last year, looking at other people’s list makes me wish I had more time, and money. Just take a look at a couple of these thought out lists:
But in 2024, at least half-way through, is when I started to play a variety of games. I had just quit League of Legends, and tried to dive into other games. But I also noticed that I didn’t play that many games last year, so here’s hoping I’m able to dive into more games in 2025.
Emberward
I’m a fan of tower defense games, and it was one of the first genres I’ve played and spent the most time with. I also love Tetris, and played a lot of it growing up, so Emberward is a match made in heaven for me. Not only does it mix two types of games that I love but also giving it a unique and fun twist.
What I’m very happy about this game is not only that the Tetris twist is satisfying, fun, and easy to pick up, but the towers are unique, and the boss fights are hype. I’ve yet to be disappointed with an area, and boss, but the complete opposite. It’s always surprising, and fun. Highly recommended for tower defense fans.
Vampire Hunters
I love bullet heavens. This genre has to be my favorite newest genre, and I’ve played so many and realize that what usually differentiates them is their art style, their music, or how competent they are with the elements of the genre. But some try to do something different, and Vampire Hunters is one of them.
The first person twist to the genre, the unique and different playstyle with each character, the verticality in the maps, and, can’t go unmentioned, the plethora of guns you can wield at a time. The whole cast must have strong arms to be wielding everything.
Tekken 8
Am I good at fighting games? Probably decent, something like the average or slightly better than the average gamer. After I dropped Smash Ultimate, and I couldn’t find another platform fighter that gripped me at that time, I went into Tekken, specially because I had enjoyed Tekken 7.
I love watching Tekken 8 tournaments, and learning it was fun, and a little bit infuriation. I just can’t get those half circles going. I still need to jump back to it, and I plan on doing so at some point.
Outlast Trials
I made a post talking about how I wasn’t a big fan of the hide-and-seek horror games, and I used Outlast as an example. But Outlast Trials, even if it’s still part of the same universe, and plays very similar to the older ones, it feels so different to me.
This live-service multiplayer take on the franchise that narratively serves as a prequel is such a blast. And before I go any further, the battle passes are free. I’ve been having a blast running through the trials, and watching the story unfold. What made the biggest difference for me was the setting, the quicker pace, and the overall gameplay. Even if it’s a little bit hide and seek, it’s not like prior games.
I’m looking forward to going through my backlog, such as 1000xRESIST, Drill Core, Crab God, Go Home Annie, Home Safety Hotline, just to name a few.
How’s your backlog looking? What game was memorable for you on 2024?
Emberward looks so appealing to me, but I don't like Tetris very much. I wonder if I'd still enjoy it xD
Thanks for sharing my list friend! I wish I was into fighting games more Tekken 8 was on a lot of lists I saw for 2024.
