The awards happened, and I’m impressed with how the stage looked. As much hate as the man gets, he did do a good job. The Muppets making jokes about him, which were insults I saw online, was a funny, and amusing move.
The orchestras and the performances were amazing, and I was surprised they mentioned what was happening in the industry. Giving many deserving people a spotlight to deliver a message, considering all the stuff happening behind all these companies, was a touching move.
But the games! There were a lot of surprises, a lot of hype, and these are the games I’m the most HYPED about!
Project Century
RGG (Ryu Ga Gotoku) Studio is back at it again with a very hype looking brawler. For those unfamiliar with RGG, it’s the studio behind Yakuza, and it seems like they’re taking us back to 1915 Japan, to what seems to be a gritty, violent, and dynamic world. Even before it said RGG on the screen, I could tell it was going to be made by them, as the fighting looked painful, the movement and style familiar, especially the movement, and I just can’t wait to see why the game is called Project Century.
Stage Fright
Ghost Town Games, known for Overcooked!, is coming back with a new game, and it looks adorable! Also, love the little joke they make about the company in the video, it got me. No doubt they’ll make another hectic and fun game that will have us “cooperating” with our friends. Besides the cute visual, I’m interested as to why the characters are split between two colors, and while I can see that they both affect one another, what else could it mean?
One Move Away
Ramage Games is giving us a cozy game about moving! It’s almost like Unpacking, but you’re packing away, or Moving Houses, without the psychological horror. The moving aspect of the game looks very soothing, and I love how specific you can get with the placement. It also feels like it’s a story about growing up, so I love the narrative implications. A lot can be said when it comes to moving on!
Dispatch
AdHoc Studios, which has ex-Tall Tale developers, is creating a new narrative game about superheroes! Only here, do you take on the role of Mech-Man after his suit is destroyed, and he becomes a superhero dispatcher and encounters all the emotional baggage that follows when falling from grace. It looks like a very unique and fresh take on being a superhero and what it means to be one.
Split Fiction
Hazelight Studios, known for It Takes Two, and A Way Out, is hitting us with another co-op banger. The game takes place in the future, and you’ll assume the role of either Mio or Zoe with your partner, two aspiring writers hired by a tech company that hooks them up into a machine and simulates their story. By accident, they both end up in the same simulation, where they find out that the company’s goal is to steal the stories.
The premise sounds very cool, and I love how it will be jumping between Science Fiction and Fantasy because these two authors have different styles and preferences. All their prior games have been a wonderful and accessible experience for those inexperienced with gaming, so I can’t wait for this game!
Project Robot
Honestly, I have no idea what this is. I have no idea what anything that was portrayed could possibly mean. Nevertheless, it sounds beautiful, it looks beautiful, and thanks to their track record, it will probably be great and beautiful. A trailer that needs to be watched to understand
Thick As Thieves
This game has some big names in the immersive sim/stealth genre, so it guarantees that it will be a competent and freeing game. But what caught my attention was the premise. It’s a PvPvE game, where you and other thieves have the same objective of stealing the same item. In a genre where the main focus is player expression and liberty of approach, I’m excited to see what shenanigans can occur and how a story can develop with these mechanics in mind.
Elden Ring Nightreign
More Elden Ring! But I did not expect a stand-alone co-op-focused game. And it’ll have bosses from the prior game? I’m not sure what’s happening, but it looks like a great and fun time!
What were you most excited for? What did you think about the award show? Anything else that pumped you up about it?
Was crying when I saw “creators for Ico”. Project robot, okami and split was some of my fave announcements
I didn't watch the show, but I did watch all the gaming announcements today. Looking forward to Project: Robot the most, I think. And the Turok trailer also looked surprisingly decent?! I did not expect that.
