Amazing post - Many of my friends haven't started the game yet, and this puts perfectly exactly the theme of expectations and favoritism I so want to talk about (but don't want to spoil them). With Curly's completely failure to Anya by protecting Jimmy - It makes me wonder if there's some symbolism in him being forced to eat his leg and "having his cake and eating it too" - He protected Jimmy, and as a result, he's been put in a position where Jimmy holds ultimate power over him and his life. Great stuff!

Take responsibility applies to so many people in this, not just Jimmy. I hope your friends play it soon so you can talk about it! It's a great experience with a lot to talk about.

I love this post! It gave me so many interesting insights into the game that I haven't been able to catch before. I never quite realized the societal expectations theme surround Jimmy, Swansea and Curly. Thank you for having written this!

Thank you for reading and leaving a comment! I picked it up while in Swansea's speech, then realized that it could be connect to Curly's conversation with Jimmy. There are a couple more interesting themes in Mouthwashing, which themes did you pick up when you played it?

I was mostly intrigued by Jimmy's obsession with being in control, being a captain and being responsible, as this seems to be the most obvious and recurring theme throughout the whole game. I have trouble putting it into words, since the game is quite multi-faceted and requires some deep diving to fully understand each theme. I really like how articulate you were with this post, and I believe that if you could write another delving deeper into this theme, it'd be awesome!!! Just a suggestion though of course!

That's is an important part of the game's narrative, I just associated it to social expectations. I did think about diving deeper in this theme, but it was already 11 pages on my word doc! I could certainly add more, but I've also thought about exploring other themes in this game.
